According to the vignettes we read in the book the house on mango street, the readers can obviously tell that Cisneros obviously believes that parents do raise their teenage boys/girls differently.
Here are some of the Vignettes which you can tell.
“What the matter, Marin says, is for boys to see us and for us to see them (100)”
This quote is basically saying that Both boys and girls are raised not to look deeper into personality because the physical attraction and appearance are important.
Another quote that you can tell about her believes is in this quote. “Alicia whose mom died don't have nobody to make her lunch box tortillas(81) In this little quote that i got from Cisneros vignette is that she is saying that a girl child should not need someone to take care of her or the family when the mother is not available. The girls should know that is her responsibility to take the place of her mother when she not present.
Also another one that was notice that she was giving her opinion on how boys and girls should be raised is in the quote on page 81. The quote says “ Her father says to be this beautiful trouble she cant go without”.
In class we talk about this and what we came up with that Cisneros is trying to put out is that a family might treat a daughter in a family then they will treat the son. first of all because it easy for girl to bring shame to the family. For example most African i know threat the man son with more freedom because they have a theory that when a boy go out to do his business he wont come back pregnant. But for a girl child if she is given the same freedom as the boy do, for her to go outside to do her business. there is a 50-50 possibility that the girl will come back bring shame to the family
Looking at what cisneros think, i have a lot in common with her. I also feel like girls and boys should be raised up a very different way.But i disagree with the part that boys should be giving more freedom. It should be given to both gender no matter what the situation may be.
